Blessings in the Countryside

Putting Yahweh first

After hours of driving through Iowa, we came into Minnesota…just in time to wait. There we were with a low battery on our phone (which we were using for GPS), slowly creeping along the road with a long line of vehicles ahead of us. We had hit a construction standstill.

We can get so busy with our lives that we tend to forget what truly matters.

Luke 10:38-42 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Yahushua’s feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Master, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.” And Yahushua answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Ephesians 5:15-17 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Master is.

We live in a busy culture of work and pleasure. A “selfie” generation of people who only care about what they can get, how much they can get, how much people like them, and what would benefit them the most. As much as we would like to say that we are not one of those people, we are not perfect. Being self-less rather than self-ish is a difficult task. But it is possible with Yahweh’s help. Therefore, we must put Yahweh first in our lives, above our own desires.

Caring for others

In scripture, Yahweh shows us how important family is. Relationships are critical. Throughout the centuries, grandparents and great grandparents did not go into assisted living centers. They were cared for by their children and great grandchildren. Families stayed together from the beginning to the end of their lives. Children grew up learning from years of wisdom and knowledge.

Our generation now has few multigenerational homes. While most people today, are not in the position to care for their elderly family members, we can still take the time to visit and provide support. Yahweh has given us all a calling to care for our elders, widows, orphans, and the needy.

1 Timothy 5:4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before Yahweh.

1 John 3:17-18 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of Yahweh abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

Philippians 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Seeking Yahweh

We are currently at our Grandparents’ farm. It is no longer a working farm, but it has decades of history. The beautiful countryside is a peaceful place to find prayer time with Yahweh. It has given us the opportunity to seek Yahweh and work on the project details that He has called us to do in the near future.

We have been blessed with the time and ability to help our Grandpa with some maintenance work around the farm and spend some time truly getting to know and encourage him.

Our Grandma is currently in hospice care, not far from the farm. It is difficult to see her in the state that she is in now. But we are full of joy at seeing her smile, as we sing and play music for her. Just being there meant a lot to her. You could see it in the way her face lit up.

Shining the love of Yahushua

Our current mission here is to our grandparents. Many times, those in ministry can forget about those who are closest to them: their family. It is so important that we remember to keep our lives balanced in Yahweh.

Even while we have been working to brighten our Grandparents’ lives with the light of Yahushua, we have had the pleasure of ministering to a few other people at the hospice center too. We met a lady who did not have family to come visit her. She loved to hear Elijah play the piano in the chapel. Yahweh has blessed Elijah with a beautiful musical gift that has opened many doors.

What truly matters

More and more, we can see how important it is to take the time out of our busy lives for the things that matter. There is always work to be done, riches to gather, and fun to have. But it is the people in our lives that matter, especially our family.

There are many people who are often forgotten about because no one takes the time to stop and spend a moment with them. We are called to love and serve Yahweh, care for our family, provide for the needy, and remember those who are sometimes forgotten. YOU can make a difference too.

Remember to take time out of your busy life for what truly matters.
